Michael Dougherty is an 18 year veteran firefighter/paramedic. Mike is certified in both Arizona and Michigan firefighter 1 and 2. Mike has earned three certificates of achievement from the United States Fire Administration/ FEMA in Decision Making and Problem Solving; Developing and Managing Volunteers; and Introduction to Mitigation and Emergency Response to Terrorism. Mike has also earned a certificate in Introduction to Management through the Criminal Justice Institute from the State of Michigan Department of State Police Firefighters Training Council; he has earned certificates in Hazmat Technician, Firefighters Safety and Survival, Incident Command/ Emergency Management, and Confined Space. Mike has attended the National Fire Academy in Emmetsburg, Maryland earning his certificates in Managing Company Tactical Operations.
While diving feet first into the fire service career, he has had the opportunity to work full-time as a firefighter in Arizona and experience what it is like to fight wild land fires out west. While in Arizona, he organized and implemented the TIP (trauma intervention program) program, which is successfully running to this day. Mike has earned 62 credits towards his Associates Degree in Fire Science, and is also a National Registered EMT-P. He has sat behind a console and has worked as a 9-1-1 communication specialist and is a certified EMD. Mike has also served his country by achieving an Honorable Discharge from the Air Force as a Sergeant. He served four years in the Air National Guard as an F-16 crew chief.
While currently employed as a fulltime firefighter in Pontiac, Ml, he has been involved in Technical Rescue Operations. Mike puts both his heart and skills into teaching and strives to create a learning atmosphere in his PowerPhone classes.
