PowerPhone Appoints Reed V. Hillman to Senior Adviser Post
Thursday December 10, 2009

Reed V. Hillman, former Colonel of the Massachusetts State Police, State Representative, and 2006 candidate for Lieutenant Governor, has joined PowerPhone, Inc., a leading provider of 911 call handling solutions. Hillman, who retired as Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, brings three decades of critical public safety and law enforcement experience with expert knowledge of criminal law, emergency communications, security, and public safety. This appointment expands the scope of training, technology, and professional services that PowerPhone can provide to its international client base.

During his tenure with the Massachusetts State Police, Col. Hillman rose through the ranks from trooper to Captain, before being selected by former Governor William Weld to head up the 2,600 person State Police force. As Superintendent, Reed's duties included liaison with public safety organizations such as local police and sheriffs, fire marshals, corrections, and the New England State Police Intelligence Network. Reed was also responsible for external relations with federal public safety agencies, Office of the Governor, Massachusetts Port Authority, Massachusetts Turnpike, and state building security and investigations, including the Commonwealth's 100 plus courthouses. In addition, Reed was responsible for training protocols and standards for campus police officers and private investigators.

"As a trooper, Police Superintendent, and committed statewide politician, Reed has experienced the impact of effective communications on emergency response from every angle," said Chris Salafia, CEO of PowerPhone. "As a top law enforcement official in one of the country's most populous states, he brings to PowerPhone a 360 degree perspective that will not only help PowerPhone customers deliver the right service levels to their citizens and constituents, but will also help us continue to improve the emergency call-handling products and processes that our clients rely on every day to save lives."

As a State Representative, Hillman served as ranking minority member of the Public Safety Committee, Joint Committee on Homeland Security, and Joint Committee on Criminal Justice. Hillman maintains ongoing relationships with Massachusetts Police Chiefs, Fire Chiefs, police and fire unions, and Executive Office of Public Safety Officials.

"After many years serving the great citizens of Massachusetts, I am excited for the opportunity to work for PowerPhone," said Hillman. "I'm looking forward to the challenge of helping public safety agencies nationwide meet the public's rising expectations of the 911 system, while striving to deliver a unified call handling approach to better protect callers, victims, and emergency responders."

In addition to his responsibilities at PowerPhone, Hillman is an adjunct professor of Criminal Justice.
